Women and Environment & Women's History Month Events at Florissant-Valley Community College

Women and Environment

Juror Brenda Oelbaum selected 40 works by 27 artists for this collaborative exhibit of the St. Louis and Philadelphia Chapters of the Women's Caucus for Art. Each work explores the theme of women and their environment, whether political, social, cultural or ecological.

The St. Louis Women’s Caucus for Art is donating all artist entry fees to the Rubia Project. Rubia’s mission is to develop economic opportunities through craft heritage as well as support education and to promote health and well being for Afghan women and their families. The Rubia Quilt is created from embroidered work of Afghan women as well as the work of several WCA chapters from around the nation. The quilt will be on display through the exhibition.

In addition to raising community awareness through the Rubia Quilt, a 25% commission will be taken on any artwork sold and donated to Woman’s Place. Woman’s Place is a haven for women who have experienced violence. Crisis intervention, support groups, self-growth programs and community education are part of the Woman’s Place Program.

The Women and Environment exhibition is part of a series of Women’s History Month events taking place at Florissant Valley Community College. Throughout March, panel discussions, video shorts, and lectures will be taking place. For a list of events the St. Louis WCA is participating in or sponsoring, please see the “Women’s History Month” event calendar (a link is provided below).

Jennifer Weigel - review

I was featured in the Southeast Missourian for my installation at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. Chris Harris wrote a lovely article on installation art featuring some wonderful photographs of my Dutch Elm Disease piece by Kit Doyle. A photograph of my work was even included on the front cover of SE Live: Arts & Entertainment Guide.
