Send Us Your News/Images/Ideas...

Dear WCA Members,

I have created a new Members' Blogs section on the WCA-STL blog. (Check it out on the right, below the archive.) If you are blogging, please send me a link to your blog and I will link it from the WCA-STL one. This way we can all be more interconnected.

And please don't forget to let me know what you're up to for the member announcements on the blog. We would love to post what you are doing. Just email me a brief description of your project, along with a photo if you want a photo posted, and I will copy it verbatim to the blog.

Also, the blog is a great place to post some in progress works so you can get feedback on them. Are you having difficulties getting the materials to do what you want or don't know what materials to use? Do you want feedback to discern whether or not your work is conveying what you have to say? Post a picture of it and see what people think or can suggest.

Please email your blogs, announcements and works in progress to the exhibitions address.

Raising Our Voices

Exhibition Opening
RAISING OUR VOICES

Raising Our Voices is a traveling, all-inclusive Mail Art Show sponsored by the St. Louis Chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art (www.wca-stl.org). The artworks have been created by members of the WCA-STL as well as the CWCA, the Chicago Chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art. The exhibition's opening reception will take place at Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts on Cherokee Street in St. Louis on Friday, November 14th, 6-9pm. The exhibition will run until Saturday, November 29, and then will travel to Liz Long Gallery in Chicago, Illinois.

Raising Our Voices will benefit the Differently Minded Art Studio at the Urban Art Retreat in Chicago. The Differently Minded Art Studio is founded on the principal of being an all-inclusive studio, where any person, regardless of ability can make art. One focus of the Differently Minded Art Studio is to decrease the stigma of having a mental illness. By working alongside someone with a mental illness, a person becomes more comfortable with the "other", and starts seeing him/her as just another unique person making art. For a person with a mental illness, it helps to be seen as an artist, not a "crazy person".

Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts is located at 3151 Cherokee Street in St. Louis. The gallery will be open the last three Saturdays in November from 1-4pm. or by appointment. Raising Our Voices will open at Liz Long Gallery, the Urban Art Retreat in Chicago on December 13th, with an opening reception on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 from 1-4pm. The exhibition will run until January 31, 2009. Gallery hours are Saturdays, 11am-4pm or by appointment. For more information about either venue, visit www.fortgondo.com and www.urbanartretreat.com.
