Support WCA Lifetime Achievement Awards

Dear Friend of the Women’s Caucus for Art:

Please support the Women’s Caucus for Art’s (WCA) 2010 Lifetime Achievement Awards, the highlight of our annual Confab “From the Center,” February 10–16, 2010, in Chicago. The Awards, vital to our collective history, our mission, and our future, celebrate the lives and document the impact of the extraordinary women we honor. The 2010 Lifetime Achievement Awardees are: Tritobia Hayes Benjamin, Mary Jane Jacob, Senga Nengudi, Joyce J. Scott, and Spiderwomen Theater. President’s Awardees are Juana Guzman and Karen Reimer. These women join the more than 150 others WCA has honored since 1979. Join us at the Awards dinner and ceremony at the Chicago Cultural Center on February 13, 2010. Visit our website at
www.nationalwca.org for more information.

This year WCA needs your support more than ever! Any amount is welcome. The Awards are almost entirely funded by your tax deductible donations. Your gifts pay for essential expenses such as Awardee travel and accommodations, and for the catalogue that documents their accomplishments. See donation opportunities below and details on the enclosed form.

Make a donation – This year we have a $4000 dollar-for-dollar challenge grant from an anonymous donor. Each dollar that you contribute will generate two dollars for WCA. Further, if we receive your donation of $500 or more by January 15, 2010, your name will be listed in the commemorative catalogue. Please include the Awards in your year-end donation plans. Donations are deductible according to IRS tax laws.

Purchase raffle tickets – Our 2010 raffle prize is a lithograph generously donated by Chicago artist Eleanor Speiss-Ferris. Give raffle tickets as gifts.

Join us at the Awards – Sponsor a table for eight at the Awards dinner, purchase a ticket, or give a dinner ticket as a gift to a friend.

Support the 2010 Awards today – Donate or purchase dinner and raffle tickets on our website at www.nationalwca.org or send a check with the enclosed form.
Thank you for supporting our mission to expand recognition for women in the arts and to ensure that women’s achievements are documented and celebrated.

Playback Workshop Theater in partnership with the Diversity Awareness Partnership, The YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis presents, “Homegrown: St. Louis Organic Racism, a one-act play that tells the love story of a couple who move to Missouri together, one originally from St. Louis, the other a newcomer from another state. While addressing racial diversity issues is inherent and organic in our region, the storyline weaves an authentic patchwork of scenes which show how societal differences in the region became a true challenge to the relationship of the 2 people involved.

The play is followed by a playback theatre performance facilitated by Playback Workshop Theatre's Artistic Director and Founder Jacqueline Masei. Masei has over 20 years of experience as a teaching artist and director of playback theatre, theatre of the oppressed and social justice work. After the performances there will be a focused discussion facilitated and supported by professionals in the fields of social justice and diversity.
